English below / Lors d’un voyage en Louisiane, j’ai eu l’occasion de visiter Oak Alley Plantation et de photographier les chênes imposants qui bordent l’allée menant à la demeure. C’est à partir de l’une de ces photographies que j’ai créé cette peinture, capturant l’âme de cet arbre chargé d’histoire.Témoin silencieux du passage du temps, ce majestueux chêne a vu défiler des générations entières. Planté à des fins d’apparat, il impressionnait les invités du propriétaire. Mais derrière la splendeur de cette allée se cachait une réalité sombre : cette plantation fut un lieu marqué par l’esclavage, où tant de vies furent brisées à l’ombre de ces mêmes arbres. Si cet arbre pouvait parler, il raconterait assurément les échos d’un passé douloureux.À présent, cet arbre trouve un nouveau foyer, celle du restaurant Patate et Persil, situé à Vaudreuil-Dorion. Il est peint sur une table en bois où il accompagnera des repas, des échanges, des instants partagés. Ce chêne, autrefois témoin de souffrances, devient aujourd’hui le gardien de conversations plus légères, de rires et de confidences. Il incarne la mémoire, la résilience et le passage du temps.Peut-être, en posant le regard sur lui, entendrez-vous un écho de son passé, un rappel discret de l’histoire qu’il porte en silence.

During a trip to Louisiana, I had the opportunity to visit Oak Alley Plantation and photograph the towering oaks that line the driveway leading to the mansion. It was from one of these photographs that I created this painting, capturing the soul of this tree steeped in history.

A silent witness to the passage of time, this majestic oak has witnessed the passing of generations. This grand avenue of trees was planted to impress the owner's guests. But behind the splendor of this avenue lurked a dark reality: this plantation was a place marked by slavery, where so many lives were shattered in the shadow of these very trees. If this tree could speak, it would undoubtedly recount the echoes of a painful past.

Now, the tree has found a new home in the Patate et Persil restaurant in Vaudreuil-Dorion. It is painted on a wooden table, where it will accompany meals, exchanges and shared moments. This oak, once a witness to suffering, now becomes the guardian of lighter conversations, laughter and confidences. It embodies memory, resilience and the passage of time.

Perhaps, as you look upon it, you'll hear an echo of its past, a discreet reminder of the history it bears in silence.
