Description of the work
In my neighborhood, in springtime, there's a tree that surpasses all others in terms of presence and beauty. It's simply grand and majestic. When in bloom, this magnolia is bright and aromatic, perfuming the air with a sweet scent. Knowing that this spectacle for the eyes, however, is short-lived, I went to see it every day, equipped with my camera, hoping day after day to witness this extraordinary bloom. I can't explain why, but this year, only a few timid flowers made their appearance. On my return home, accepting the situation, I looked up at my neighbor's tree, a cherry tree that has been spreading gently over my driveway for the past few years. There it was, in all its splendor, its elegant pink blossoms swaying in the wind, its foliage filtering the sun's gentle rays. Then I realized that in my over-hyped expectations, I'd overlooked what was right in front of me. Unfortunately, in the space of one stormy night, all that beauty was gone... a delicate pink lace covered the ground in the early hours, stripping the cherry tree of its finest assets.
There are sometimes things in life that we'd like to keep for long periods, but which unfortunately are only fleeting and momentary, seeming to slip through our fingers. By its definition of what is ephemeral, I find that the word "fleeting" perfectly represents what I wanted to express in my painting. To fully appreciate the present moment is also to marvel at all those little things that are just passing by, and that we can only keep with us in memory... or in paint!
